Holiday Apartment near Innsbruck – Quiet Wipptal Living, Quick into the City

If you are looking for a holiday apartment near Innsbruck, you usually do not want to sleep in the middle of the city — but not so far out that a city day turns into a long journey either. The Stoacherhof sits at exactly that distance: in Mützens, a hamlet of the market municipality of Matrei am Brenner in the Wipptal, south of Innsbruck. The city is around 25 minutes away by car, or you can take the train in comfort. This page says openly who this is the right choice for — and who it is not.

How close Innsbruck really is

From the Stoacherhof to the Tyrolean capital is around 25 minutes by car. If you would rather leave the car behind, take the train: the station is about a ten-minute walk from us, and the bus leaves around five minutes from the house. Within Innsbruck itself, the sights are close together. The old town with the Golden Roof and Maria-Theresien-Straße is the heart of the city; directly above it, the Hungerburgbahn and cable cars run from the centre up to the Seegrube and the Hafelekar at over 2,300 m. The Bergisel ski jump is on the edge of the city and combines well with a stroll through the old town. From here, a day in Innsbruck is an outing, not an expedition.

What speaks for the Wipptal: peace, space and your own kitchen

You notice the biggest difference from a city flat in the evening: the house is quiet, and the view reaches a good 20 kilometres down the valley to the Hintertux Alps. You do not stay in a room but in one of four holiday apartments between 55 and 120 m², each with a full kitchen, its own bathroom, fibre-optic Wi-Fi and a smart TV. Parking is free, right at the house — no hunting for a space after a day in the city. Check-in runs by itself via a key safe from 4.00pm, even if you arrive late; check-out is by 10.00am.

What Innsbruck cannot offer: mountains on the doorstep

If you stay in Innsbruck, almost every mountain tour starts with driving out of the city. Here it is the other way round. The toll road to the Maria Waldrast monastery starts right in Mützens, around 15 minutes up by car — and that is where the classic ascent of the Serles begins. The entrance to the Stubai valley is around 10 minutes’ drive away, and the Bergeralm ski area near Steinach is also about 10 minutes. In the other direction, you reach Sterzing in South Tyrol in around 35 minutes over the Brenner. From here, Innsbruck is one destination among several — not the only reason to get in the car.

What speaks against it — honestly

If you are coming purely for a city break — museums, concerts, going out in the evening and walking back to bed —, you are better off staying in Innsbruck itself. 25 minutes is short for an outing, but over three evenings in a row in the old town it means a journey back each time, with someone driving or keeping an eye on the timetable. We say this openly because a disappointed booking helps nobody. For everyone who wants to combine one or two city days with mountains, peace and plenty of space, the calculation works out differently — and then the Wipptal is the better base.

Which apartment for whom

For two people, the Auszeit is enough, with 55 m², one bedroom and a built-in workspace. Families take the Weitblick (65 m², two bedrooms, loggia) or the Ursprung (85 m², two bedrooms, historic original parlour). Coming as a group or two families, book the Panorama: 120 m², three bedrooms, a 50 m² kitchen-living room and space for up to six people. Prices apply per night and depend on the number of guests; the local tourist tax of the municipality of Matrei am Brenner is already included in the price shown. The Wipptal Card is included for our guests: free travel on bus and train within the Wipptal and discounts on the mountain lifts.
