Family Holiday in the Wipptal – Space, Your Own Kitchen and Short Distances

With children a holiday apartment is almost always the better choice than a hotel room: your own kitchen, your own bathroom, a living area where everyone has room in the evening. The Stoacherhof in Mützens near Matrei am Brenner lets four such apartments — from the compact retreat to the 120 m² flat for six people. This guide gathers what makes a family holiday in the Wipptal: the apartments, the outings within reach, and the things that make a stay with children straightforward.

Why a holiday apartment simply works with children

Wet gear, hungry children at half past four, a midday nap that does not run to buffet times: that is what a holiday apartment is built for, and a hotel room is not. All four apartments at the Stoacherhof have a full kitchen — you cook when it suits, and nobody prescribes a breakfast time. For larger families or two families together there is the Panorama with 120 m², three bedrooms and a 50 m² kitchen-living room; up to six people have room here without treading on each other’s toes. The Ursprung (85 m²) and Weitblick (65 m²) are the mid-range for the classic family, and the Auszeit (55 m²) is enough for parents with one child. Check-in runs by itself, by code, from 4.00pm — even if the journey with children takes longer than planned.

Outings that work with children

The location makes short distances possible, and short distances are half the battle with children. The Serlesbahnen in Mieders — the family mountain of the Stubai valley with its summer toboggan run — are around 10 minutes by car, so easily reached from the Wipptal. To Maria Waldrast Monastery an easy themed and pasture trail leads in summer, a toboggan run in winter; the toll road up begins right here in Mützens. For hot summer days the region’s bathing lakes and pools are within reach. And a city day in Innsbruck — around 25 minutes by car or by train — brings variety when the weather on the mountain does not cooperate.

What makes a stay with children cheaper

With us the price is per apartment and night, not per person — for a family that soon adds up in your favour against two hotel rooms. There is no minimum stay, and you can cancel free of charge up to five days before arrival, should someone fall ill after all. The Wipptal Card is included for our guests: with it you and the children travel free on bus and train within the Wipptal and get discounts at the mountain lifts. To be upfront: the local tourist tax of the municipality of Matrei am Brenner is added per person and night — but children under 15 are exempt.

The farm as a quiet base

A family holiday is more relaxed when the base is straightforward. At the Stoacherhof check-in runs by itself, by code, from 4.00pm — after a long journey with tired children you need not report to anyone or keep to reception hours. Parking is free right at the house, and the distances with luggage and children are short. Prams and buggies, and the sledges in winter, go into the lockable room where the skis and bikes otherwise stand. And the farm is no anonymous apartment block: we live here and keep our own beehives, and the honey is ready for our guests. How much of that the children may take part in, we are happy to arrange with you in person. So there is quiet, without giving up the short distances to the excursion destinations.

Frequently asked questions

Which apartment is best suited to a family?

For the classic family the Ursprung (85 m²) or Weitblick (65 m²) work well, both with two bedrooms. For larger families or two families together, the Panorama offers 120 m² and three bedrooms for up to six people.

Is there children’s equipment such as a high chair or travel cot?

We are happy to sort that out directly when you enquire, so we can prepare accordingly. Just let us know your children’s ages.

Do children pay the tourist tax?

Children under 15 are exempt from the tourist tax of the municipality of Matrei am Brenner. For older guests it is added per person and night.

Is the region also suitable for families in bad weather?

Yes. Innsbruck with its museums and the Alpine Zoo is around 25 minutes away, and there are pools in the region. In the evening the apartments’ own kitchen and large living area help.
