Matrei am Brenner is the market town the old Brenner route passes through — and our home. The Stoacherhof stands in Mützens, a hamlet of the municipality, a little above the valley floor. Anyone looking for a holiday apartment here gets both: the infrastructure of a market town and the quiet of a farm that is not on the through road.
Why Mützens and not the town centre
Matrei am Brenner is a historic market town on the Brenner route — handy if you want shops, the post office and places to eat nearby. But you actually stay a little way from all that, in Mützens. The difference is one you notice in the evening: no through traffic, no railway noise, just a view across to the other side of the valley. For guests who choose Matrei because it is central but do not want a holiday on the main road, this is the point that matters.
Four apartments between 55 and 120 m²
We let four independent holiday apartments, not rooms. Each has a full kitchen, its own bathroom, fibre wifi and a smart TV. The Auszeit, at 55 m² with one bedroom, is the most compact — right for two to four people. The Weitblick (65 m², two bedrooms) and the Ursprung (85 m²) are the mid-range options for families. The Panorama sits on the top floor at 120 m²: three bedrooms, a 50 m² kitchen-living room, a balcony with an unobstructed view across the Wipptal, room for up to six people. A lockable room for skis and bikes is included, and parking right at the house is free.
From Matrei, everything is a day trip
The location on the Brenner axis means short distances in four directions. You reach Innsbruck in around 25 minutes by car — or by train, which costs nothing extra thanks to the included Wipptal Card. Sterzing in South Tyrol lies about 35 minutes away, beyond the Brenner. The entrance to the Stubai valley is around 10 minutes away, and the Bergeralm ski area near Steinach is also about 10 minutes. And the toll road to Maria Waldrast Monastery, the highest-altitude pilgrimage monastery in Europe, starts right here in Mützens; it takes around 15 minutes by car to reach the top.
A farm with its own apiary
The Stoacherhof is not an apartment building run from a distance. We live here, we keep bees here, and the honey from our own apiary is there for guests — alpine honey, blossom honey, plus propolis and candles made from our own wax. That is not a decorative detail: it is the reason guests who have stayed once come back, rather than booking whatever flat comes up next time. If you would still rather be left in peace, that is fine too — check-in runs by itself, by code, from 4.00pm, and nobody has to get in touch who would rather not.
Book direct instead of through the portal
You can book directly with us — the same apartments, but without the portal’s commission. The direct price is therefore lower than what you see on the big booking sites. Prices apply per night and per apartment, not per person. There is no minimum stay, and cancellation is free up to five days before arrival. What is added, we say upfront: the local tourist tax of the municipality of Matrei am Brenner, per person and night — children under 15 are exempt.
