History on the Brenner route
Since the Middle Ages, Matrei has been an important point on the north–south connection over the Brenner. The historic village centre with its townhouses tells of this long history as a market and transit town.
Starting point into the mountains
Numerous hikes and tours begin around Matrei. From here you reach the alpine pastures, high trails and summits of the Wipptal – many of them without a long drive, right from the Stoacherhof.
