Accommodation at the Brenner – the Stopover That Turns into a Holiday

The Brenner route is the busiest Alpine crossing in Europe — and for many people it is just the stretch between Munich and the south. The Stoacherhof stands on the northern side of that route, in Mützens near Matrei am Brenner. If you are looking for accommodation at the Brenner, you are usually looking for one night. We build ours so that it gladly turns into more the next time.

Arrive whenever you arrive

Anyone driving over the Brenner rarely knows their arrival time to the hour — a jam at the Inntaldreieck, roadworks, a late start. That is exactly why we have no reception closing time: check-in runs by itself, by code, from 4.00pm, even late in the evening. Parking is free and right at the house, so you are not searching for a car park in town. Check-out is by 10.00am — early enough to carry on the next morning without rushing.

A kitchen instead of a motorway service station

The real difference from a transit hotel is the kitchen. All four apartments have a full kitchen with a dining table — you arrive, cook something simple, and the children are not still sitting in a restaurant at 9pm. If you are only staying one night, take the Auszeit (55 m², one bedroom). Travelling as a whole family, the Panorama gives you 120 m² and three bedrooms — after a day in the car, that is a different experience from a double room with an extra bed.

Why one night often turns into more

We will be honest about ourselves here: as a pure overnight stop, we work — but we are not right at the motorway exit, we sit a little above it, quiet, with a view into the valley. Guests who step onto the balcony in the morning and see the Serles, the “Altar of Tyrol”, often drive on thinking about staying longer next time. Innsbruck is around 25 minutes away, Sterzing about 35 minutes on the southern side of the Brenner, and the entrance to the Stubai valley around 10 minutes. That is how a stopover becomes a base.

For cyclists on the way to Lake Garda too

The Munich–Lake Garda cycle route runs through the Wipptal, and the Brenner is the high point of that route. A cyclist crossing the pass, before or after, needs the same as a driver: somewhere secure and lockable for the bike, a kitchen, and a bed without reception hassle. The lockable room that holds skis in winter is the bike room in summer. That is also why we do not ask for a minimum stay — a single night is a perfectly normal booking with us.

What one night costs

Prices apply per night and per apartment, not per person — for a family, that adds up quickly against a hotel room. There is no minimum stay, and cancellation is free up to five days before arrival. On top comes the local tourist tax of the municipality of Matrei am Brenner, per person and night; children under 15 are exempt. If you stay longer, the Wipptal Card is included: free travel on bus and train within the Wipptal, and discounts on the ski lifts.
